Overstimulation Is Slowly Desensitizing You
Overstimulation is a serious epidemic that’s plaguing humanity yet not something that is talked about enough. It’s been swept under the rug for too long, and we’re only beginning to see the effects of it. It’s no coincidence that social media detoxes, minimalism, travel, journaling, philosophy, and meditation have all made their way to the mainstream in recent years; these are some antidotes to the epidemic of aimlessness that we are facing, and are things that help bring us back to an intentional life.
Overstimulation Is Anti-Biological
Never before in our history have we been so readily exposed to so much information. 1,000 years ago, humans really only had knowledge of their immediate surroundings- there were no such thing as world events for them. Now, it seems like all the media is selling us is war in Europe, protests in Asia, killings in schools, global climate change on an irreversible level. Or take social media: full of standards, ideals, infinite comparisons, and self-loathing. It’s become designed to only show you the best of things.
